Book Update and a Mexican Rental Car Adventure
This new year, I've largely been revising my book, but have also been meaning to share a wild experience from my family's holiday travel.
Welcome to the new subscribers to Shapiro’s Gavel! It’s been a quiet 2024 here so far, in large part because (1) I’ve been tied up with media relating to Harvard President Claudine Gay’s resignation and (2) I’ve been trying to turn around what should be the final substantive revision of my new book. When last I updated you on the latter, a look at the illiberal takeover of legal education (building on the bird’s eye view I got with my experience at Georgetown), I was just finishing the manuscript. Well, I submitted that in July, had some back and forth with my editors at HarperCollins, and can report a few things.
First, we have a new title! Lawless: The Miseducation of America’s Future Leaders. What do you think? If you have any better ideas, feel free to put them in the comments (paid subscribers only). Second, there’s been a bit of a streamlining and restructuring, with my story interwoven into broader themes and lessons. Here’s what the new table of contents looks like at present:
